I've continued to comb through plumbing websites hoping that something would speak to me, and finally something did. Simple and graceful like the Kohler pedestal, but different. Classically good looking without calling attention to itself, and the right size. The Lutezia pedestal by Porcher.
Bingo! Side room for stuff being used, then put away. The base looks heavier. How is it constructed? Still wise to see in person and see if it steady on its feet.
Meaty, bold, usable. And room to set a toothbrush, razor, hairbrush aside and not have it either slip into the bowl or fall onto the floor -- which is MOST irritating...

Can't beat a classic.
Really lovely, David.
It looks like architectural salvage - from me, the highest compliment.

Great minds think alike! We have the same sink in the downstairs guest bath. It's great looking.
