Beautiful monster

Do upholstery shops build custom sofas? I'm assuming they do if they're of sufficient size, I can't think who else would do it. Never having ordered one built before I don't know.

I'm planning the family room again and digging the Henredon leather sofa above. The problem is that its 44 inches deep and my room is only 13 feet wide. I've been dragging around a tape measure and I'm not convinced I can't make it work, it would just be so much easier if it had a smaller footprint.

I love it too. Call the manufacturer and see if they can do a 2 seater or love seat? maybe they do and it's just not sold where you looked?
Our bums (asses to you yanks) sat on about 100 sofas when we were shopping for ours last summer. When you sit in the right one, you know!

Its really the depth that concerns me. I'm still working it out in my head, I probably should make some templates and move them around.

I was going to say tape some newspapers together in the size of the piece. Then you can play with scale.

P.S. That's a handsome sofa!

David: a number of furniture stores have custom departments. You may want to try one of those first.

My cousin in southern Fla. built a new house a few years ago and bought new furniture, including a nice curved sofa with reclining ends. She said there's a chain of stores down there that will make up any sofa you want, just tell them size, color, fabric, etc. and there you go.

I don't remember the store name but surely such places exist in the Midwest too, check around.

yes - lots of upholsterers will build frames for custom couches and ottomans -a great solution for a tight space (or the opposite). I just had a custom ottoman built which had to be extremely low and extremaly LARGE. it turned out so great and for 1/2 the price of what I was finding in stores. I'm sorry to say that I don't know of any upholsteres in your area (but I do in DC) -maybe ask David Jiminez (I think you know him too?).

It was bugging me I couldn't remember the name of that place. Might be one of those . . . glad I could help a bit.

I just like to be comfortable, which is why I've kept the same Broyhill sofa for 37 years. Grin.

I had a chair custom made at a a very reputable place in your town. They worked hard at and so did I. It was a nightmare. I would never buy anything I had not sat on. It is too hard too agree on how something feels.

I have not had him do a custom piece, but have been consistently happy with David Serrioz. He's very good, understands detail and is reasonable and usually (usually) quick. 816-523-0042. For future. (Sorry, I am working backwards here, as you can tell.)
